The second, third and fourth year programming builds upon the knowledge that is learned in the first year program.
Graduated Program Years 2-4
Second Year
On Monday participants visit the Queens’s Archives, discuss new archival material, learn about Marine Archaeology, and explore History and Archaeology on the Internet.
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday excavate the archaeological site.
On Friday participants overview what they learned during the week, process the artifacts from the excavation, discuss museums on the Internet, visit the Interpretive Centre, and discuss the exhibits. Participants then design and create their own exhibit; at the end of the day they present their exhibit to the group.
Third Year
On Monday participants transcribe historical documents, discuss new archival material, learn about artifacts and photography. An artifact research project allows participants to select, photograph, and illustrate an artifact, plan out and research it, and finally present the project to the group.
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday excavate the archaeological site.
On Friday participants overview what they learned during the week; scan artifacts and begin work on an online Internet project; process the artifacts from the excavation; go on a conservation and photo lab field trip; and listen to a guest speaker. Participants prepare a final online version of their project as well as a hard copy; and at the end of the day the project is presented to the group.
Fourth Year
On Monday participants will run computer simulations; discuss new archival material; discuss surveying; then go outside and work with the Transit to survey an area and create a map, and present the survey results to the group.
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday excavate the archaeological site.
On Friday participants review what they learned during the week; discuss and work on artifact conservation and reconstruction; go on a conservation and photo lab field trip and listen to a guest speaker; learn about Drafting/CorelDraw processing; work on a final project and participants talk about their experiences through the four years of the “Can You Dig It?”© Program.
