Hot Country Nights

The Cataraqui Archaeological Research Foundation invites you to join us for the 8th annual Hot Country Nights Live and Silent Auction on Thursday, August 22 from 7:00 to 10:00pm at the Iron Horse Saloon (811 Princess St. in Kingston). You will be able to bid on baskets donated by local organisations: you could obtain a family membembership to the Foundation, a certificate for our 2003 Can You Dig It? summer camp, and much, much more. Live entertainment will be provided by Ambush. This event is sponsored by Country 96, the Iron Horse Saloon, and CKWS TV.

Volunteer Opportunities Available

The Cataraqui Archaeological Research Foundation's Public Day

Can You Dig it? Join the Youth of Kingston in discovering history! You are invited to visit the excavation site of the Fort Henry Garrison Hospital on July 24, 2002 from 1:30 to 3:30pm in the lower parking lot of Fort Henry. Visitors will have the opportunity to talk to an archaeologist and to a Kingston historian. This event is being held in partnership with W & K Schell's Food Basics (Barrack St.), Human Resource Development Canada's Summer Career Placement, the Department of Canadian Heritage, Young Canada Works in Heritage Institutions, Fort Henry Historical Site, the St. Lawrence Parks Commission, and Parks Canada.

A Historical Kingston Summer Camp

The Kingston Association of Museums, Galleries & Historic Sites can help you to have a "summer experience" that you will enjoy! Partners in this programme are:

Exhibit Opening

A new exhibit entitled Archaeology: More than just Digging will debut at the Kingston Archaeological Centre on Wednesday, June 12, 2002; the exhibit presents interactive displays including archives and an introduction to the conservation process of Kingston's history. The exhibit will be introduced at 11:30 am; everyone is invited.

Kingston Mayor's Walk

The Kingston Archaeological Centre invites everyone to join Samantha the Archaeology Dog in the Mayor's Walk on Saturday, April 27, 2002. Samantha will be walking to raise funds for the Volunteer Programmes at the Centre: please join her in gathering pledges, or support her with your sponsorship. Can You Dig It? 2002

We are now accepting registration for our Can You Dig It? summer camp. This year's excavation will once again be at the Fort Henry Garrison Hospital site, where we will try to answer some of the questions that arose last year. Please see the Can You Dig It? page for more information and instructions for registration.

Annual General Meeting

Our Annual General Membership Meeting will be held at 7:00 pm on May 22, 2002 at the Massey Library, RMC. The speaker will be Susan M. Bazely, Executive Director of the Cataraqui Archaeological Research Foundation. The topic of Ms. Bazely's presentation will be Archaeology Needs You! Working Together to Preserve the Past. Refreshments will be served, and everyone welcome.

Lab Nights at the Kingston Archaeological Centre

We will be holding open lab nights from 5:30 to 8:00 pm on April 9 to 11, 16 to 18, and 23 to 25. April 23 is pizza night. Space is limited to a maximum of six to eight people, so please contact us to preregister.

The Leisure Show

The Foundation will be at the Leisure Show on April 5 and 6 2002 at Portsmouth Harbour in Kingston. We will be accepting early registration for summer camp during the show.

Nominations for the Board of Directors

The Cataraqui Archaeological Research Foundation invites members and the general public to sit on the voluntary Board of Directors. Nominees will be accepted until May 22, 2002. Please contact us for more information.

Once again we're selling cheese to raise money for the Foundation. A wide selection of Canadian and international cheeses is available. Orders must be received no later than April 18, 2002.
